-"Spirit" and "Techniques" Passed Down from 300 Years Ago-

Sorry, We currently do not accept a new reservation

We are looking forward to seeing you after the end of Covid-19 pandemic.

Nagoya Karakuri Robot Experience

We introduce everyone in Japan and overseas the spirit and techniques of Karakuri (traditional mechanical puppet) – the pride of Nagoya’s traditional Japanese culture.
The presenters are experts in introducing the characteristics of Japanese culture and industries to our visitors from abroad. For over 10 years, we have been introducing Japanese culture and industries at international training institutions and private companies to more than 600 corporate owners and managers from all around the world.

Nagoya and the Karakuri Culture
The Karakuri technique was developed in the mid-17th century, during the period of peace and stability that came after a world of long warfare. During the festivals in Nagoya of that time, the festival parade floats were a large attraction. Every town prepared its own float and competed in float decoration contest and also competed in Karakuri Puppet mechanical sophistication contest. As a result, Nagoya became the center of Karakuri culture, and further developed as a manufacturing culture center, supporting the “Made in Japan” brand.
Tea-Serving doll
The most famous Zashiki Karakuri (Salon puppet) is the tea-serving puppet. In the Edo period, daimyo and wealthy merchants used to pride themselves in gaining popularity by entertaining visitors with these mechanical puppets. Behind the charming face of the puppet is the state-of-the-art technology, incorporated throughout the Karakuri puppet, which was developed some 300 years ago to entertain guests.
Karakuri doll and AI Robot Demonstration
The heart of hospitality to entertain guests is inherited from the tea-serving puppet invented 300 years ago to the modern day cutting-edge AI robot. After the demonstration, you can take part in an opportunity touch and move the puppets and robots with your own hands.
